Diana is still determined to get closer to the swamp. Looking down at the swamp, Diana thought the water was clearer than she thought. It even gave off a sparkling light that was completely different from the gloom of the surrounding trees. She enjoyed looking down at the lake, looking at her face. But then the water suddenly moved, and Diana saw not one but many reflections of herself in the water. They emerged and grabbed her and pulled her down into the swamp. Diana struggled, screaming in pain. That cry echoed and then became smaller, smaller like it was forever submerged in the clear but pernicious water.
